Sick Call: None

Adjutant Report: Adjutant Dave Freeman is on vacation so he prepared a report prior to his vacation that follows:

I regret not being present at the meeting (NOT). I am on VACATION from Nov 28 thru Dec 5.
Well maybe I regret a little not seeing everyone at the meeting. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL if I don't talk to you before next meeting.
The Post at present has $306.76 in the Syringa Bank checking account.
We have 2 new members: Charles D. Wade and Remie J. Van Paepeghem, Everett, WA 98208 (Remie's son)
We still have 4 unpaid members for 2010. They need to pay up in order that we get $100 from higher up. Perhaps we can help those who cannot pay.
Brad Spencer and I attended the Chamber of Commerce meeting. We brought up the need for donations to support Boy's State, and the oratorical and essay contests. We received a donation from City Councilman Loni Parry in the amount of $20 while at the meeting.
The Superintendant of schools volunteered to put any article we prepare in the Middleton school periodical which goes out to thousands of parents. We need to plead for donations from that group.
We got an affirmative response from the CofC members regarding flag sales and installations on holidays. We can also mention that in the monthly Chamber newsletter, which goes out to all CofC members. The guest speaker, State Senator MeGee, told the assembled group that he got his start in Boy's State.
We need to write an article for the Gazette and the Press Ttribune about Boy's State and the other contests, asking for donations to the Post for those projects.
We need to consider flag kit sales to citizens in Middleton so that they may put them on their homes. We could make a few bucks there.

Old Business

Everyone received a copy of the letter and contract for flag displays on businesses. Brad Spencer will pass out this info at the next chamber meeting. Commander Doug will try to attend this meeting as well. It was also discussed that we can offer a similar program to home owners (mentioned above in the Adjutant's Report). We would sell flag kits for $40 and offer to install the bracket if the homeowner wishes. This would be a one-time sale, but still a fund raiser.

Membership is at 26 new or renewed members as of this date. We need 4 more new or renewal members to hit our goal of 30 by Dec 31.

The Commander said that the Mid Winter Conference will be on January 14, 2010 at the Owyhee Plaza in Boise. Legislators are invited to the conference. Classes will be held on Saturday, Jan16, for various Legion programs and we hope to have representatives there for Legion Baseball.

New Business

Commander Doug will be contacting the Middleton H.S. this week about the Oratorical Contest and will ask for a committee to form to handle this event.

Brad Spencer reported that there is great interest in Legion Baseball at Middleton H.S. They are currently being sponsored by the Caldwell post, but would like Post 39 to be their sponsor. He will follow-up on this.

The Middleton Christmas Parade will be this Sat at 1500 HRS starting at Middleton H.S. Post 39 is the Color Guard with 3 flags and 2 riflemen. Commander Doug will pick up 2 rifles loaned to us from Post 113 in Meridian on Thursday along with a 3rd flag carrier. We will be carrying the US Flag, State of Idaho Flag, and MIA/POW Flag loaned to us by Fleet Reserve Assoc. All members are asked to be there to decorate Richard Beery's pickup as Dave Freeman won't be back home until that evening. It was originally planned to use Dave Freeman's pickup, but Richard Beery volunteered his truck and his father, Floyd, will drive it. This will work out better than using Dave's truck because Dave is out of town. The parade starts at 1630 HRS and ends at the Trolly House.

A Post 39 holiday potluck dinner in leu of our regular December meeting was discussed. The dinner will be on our regular meeting date of Dec 28 at Richard Beery's home. Complete information will be sent out to all members by Commander Doug along with a link to Mapquest to find his home.

The post received letters from the two Social Study Classes at Middleton Middle School that post members visited on Veterans Day. Every student wrote a letter to the members and they were great. All the letters were circulated among the members for everyone to read. These will be placed in our historical files. One 3rd grade student also gave Commander Doug a picture that he drew and colored and that was also circulated.

Commander Doug noted that our request for 10, 1917 M1 rifles along with 1000 rounds of blank ammo has been approved by Washington, DC National and is being processed. Arrival dates of our orders is unknown at this time but the rifles could be here anytime. The ammo probably won't be here until late January at the earliest.

Chaplin Ivan was given a burial flag from the local mortuary for our use in practicing the proper handling and folding of a burial flag. This was practiced after the meeting adjourned.

There being no other new business, the meeting was adjourned at 1940 HRS.

Respectfully submitted,

Doug Foote - Commander in leu of Adjutant Dave's absence (Brad Spencer took the notes)

The next meeting will be a potluck dinner on December 28 at Richard Beery's home in Middleton.
