MIDDLETON, IDAHO POST 39

SEPTEMBER 26, 2011 MINUTES

The meeting was called to order at 1900 HRS by Commander Foote. The POW/MIA ceremony was conducted by Vice Commander Irving and Susan Barnett. The following members were present:

The Commander reported that the minutes of the August meeting are posted on the Website. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes as posted. A majority voted in favor.

Service Officer Report

The Service Officer had no new information to report.

Committee Reports

Merlin Campbell reported that the Boy Scouts are still anxious to participate in a flag retirement ceremony.

Adjutants' Report

The Adjutant reported that there is at present $855.48 in the Syringa Bank Account. The post is now receiving payment of $50 for each Army funeral ceremony in which our Honor Guard participates. Some of those funds have been used to purchase for the post a POW/MIA flag, pole, spear top, tassels, flag carrier and 3 new flag carrier bags, so that all the post flags are now protected when in transit and stored.

Chaplain's Report

The Chaplain reported that Harold Ward is getting around pretty good. Rich Cowdery had some issues 2 to 3 months ago but is getting better. He has circulation problems. Remie Van Paepeghem is doing OK. His wife is still in a lot of pain. Mike Polk's wife is getting better and is scheduled for hip surgery on October 12. Bob Anderson's wife is still ill and has home hospice care. The Chaplain's sister passed away.

Old Business

The Commander reported that we had 6 members cooking at the Veteran's Olympics. Post 136 had 2. Everything went extremely well. The extra food was taken to the Veteran's Home.

New Business

September 29th at 1500 will be the date and time for Gary Capps' memorial service at the Idaho Veteran's Cemetery. We will be conducting a full honors ceremony. Honor Guard members are requested to be at the location at 1430 HRS. Ron Lopez of the Boise Highlanders will perform. The Navy will fold and present.

David Freeman requested the Honor Guard to attend a rifle drill on Wednesday the 28th at his home at 1630 HRS.

The Commander advised that October 1st is the last Veteran's Home Fishing Day of the year at Juniper Ranch. He asked for as many members as possible to assist with the Vets beginning at 1000HRS.

Commander Foote advised that the District meeting is on Saturday 22 October 2011. Registrations is at 0930 HRS and the meeting begins at 1130 HRS. The meeting will be hosted by Post 2 at the Five Mile Grange, which is between 5 mile and Cloverdale on President Dr. The Post 39 Honor Guard will be receiving a Certificate of Certification from the Idaho National Guard. The meeting should be over by around 1630 HRS. The exact address and directions will be posted on the "Events" page of the web site.

The Commander advised that the Post 39 Honor Guard has been requested to lead the Boise Veteran's Day Parade in November. The parade will begin at 10th and Jefferson. Parking will be at 11th and Jefferson. Members should be at the parade location not later that 0900 HRS. The parade begins at 1000 HRS sharp. After the parade there will be a cookout at the park across from the Capitol building, honoring returning 116th troops. All are invited. The parade is 14 blocks long. There could be as many as 10,000 people lining the parade route due to the return of the 116th. No handouts or advertising is allowed. There will be further discussion at the October meeting.

The Chaplain also reported that in his last conversation with Gary Capps, Gary seemed very positive, and just kept going on with life, and being an asset to the community and his family.

The Adjutant displayed bumper stickers received from Team Johnson, which sell for $4 each. There were no takers. The stickers will be returned.

There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 1955 HRS

David Freeman won split the pot and donated the entire amount to the Post, total $27.
